Parenting: Powerful Presence, Confident Authority, and Overwhelming Love
“So powerful was his presence, so confident was his authority and so overwhelming was his love, that his disciples did follow him.”
Talking to Your Children About Sex
On May 6th City Church put on a workshop entitled The Talk: Teaching Your Children About God’s Design for Sex. And this is the truth we discussed: Your child will learn about sex. The only question is: “How?”
Love of Neighbor Begins Early
All too often, ministry in the Church—especially to children—can focus almost exclusively on the transfer of information. But while teaching children doctrine is essential, it must always be rooted in the goal of increasing our love for God and neighbor.
Welcoming New Members to the Table
When a child who has been welcomed into the church through baptism comes to a place where they know they are sinners loved by God through Jesus, the invitation to them to participate in the Lord’s Supper is extended with joy!
Revealing More of Jesus
Could we take this season of the year (Epiphany) when Christians the world over are seeking growth in Christ, as a time where we could intentionally seek growth in the discipleship of our children as well?
Training Our City Kids to Slow Down
Slowing down is not popular in our culture, nor is it typically encouraged...and our children feel the pressure to perform and produce, as well. But for the past several months we have been encouraging our older elementary and middle school students to slow down and dwell on God’s promises in Scripture.

A Season of Waiting
“Advent is a season of expectant waiting, tapping into the sense we have that all is not well, the longing for the world to be made right again. It’s a season for restless hearts and people weary of a broken world who want, with all our being, to know there’s more than this…”
Here Jim, our Director for Discipleship of Children and Families, share some ways we as a church (children included) can anticipate the birth of our Savior together.
Created for Creativity
"By teaching our children (and our congregation as a whole) that God's spirit of creation is in all of us, we can all be part of bringing more beauty into the world."
"We Are Wired for Story..."
Two weeks ago, at our Welcome Back Sunday event, we invited some of the children of City Church to watch a short animated film entitled, The Biggest Story: How the Snake Crusher Brings Us Back to the Garden.
Stewards of Children Training
Typically, our mentality toward the idea of child sexual abuse is, "it won't happen to my child, or anyone I know." We hope and pray that this is true, but, based on the statistic that 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused before they are 18, the reality is, you will most likely know someone who was sexually abused at some point in their life, if you don't already. City Church will host Stewards of Children Training, a nationally recognized child sexual abuse prevention training that educates adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. This course will take place on Sunday, April 19th from 1:00pm to 3:30pm in room 311 at Grace Covenant.
