City Church Short Term Missions: Prague and Uganda
Through each short term mission trip we seek to learn from the global church about following Jesus by faith. Our purpose is twofold: First, that we would come back with a better understanding of the Church and it's mission, and what that means for us in Richmond. Second, to encourage the missionaries in their ministries and to come alongside them in whatever way they see fit. We trust that God will use us in His work of restoration even as He works restoration in us.
City Church will send out two teams this summer: one to Prague and one to Uganda. Read on for details—and we hope you'll consider going!
Prague
Dates: Prague June 16th-23rd (2018)
Cost: $2,200 (plus the cost of passport and spending money)
What will we do? We will support the Faith Community Church and the Davis family, City Church’s missionaries in Prague. We will do this primarily through evangelism and outreach opportunities in the city. There is potential for creativity here depending on the gifts of the team members.
About Prague and Faith Community Church:
Prague is a true international city, drawing people from around the world with its beauty, history, culture, and economic opportunity. It’s also the capital of one of the most atheistic countries in the world; approximately 80% of the population considers themselves atheists. Planting churches in this city brings together people of diverse national and spiritual backgrounds, giving them the opportunity to see and experience the gospel lived out in the context of community.
The Serge team working in Prague planted Faith Community Church in 2007. It’s an international church that seeks to be a light for the gospel in the city’s diverse community. Together, the team equips and encourages church members and closely linked local ministries, and maintains a focus on evangelism and builds relationships throughout the city.
Faith Community Church has grown to two Sunday services and regular attendance of about 100 people, 40% of whom are Czech. Leadership and staff are likewise growing to include more Czechs and many partnerships with local ministries and churches continue to strengthen.

Uganda
Dates: June 30th-July 7th (2018)
Cost: $2,200 (plus the cost of passport, vaccines, and spending money)
What will we do?: We will encourage Jenna Murphy (a missionary currently serving in Uganda) as a member of City Church serving God far away. We will also come alongside her in her ministry to women and children. Depending on the gifts of the team, this could include leading a one or two day spiritual workshop for the women at Green Leaf Crafts, Bible Club for the village children, building relationships with Jenna’s coworkers and neighbors, village outreach, encouraging the women at the shop to feel known and loved, and local church attendance/meeting.
About Uganda and Jenna’s ministry there:
Port Royal is a colonial town in Western Uganda where Jenna serves alongside her Serge teammate, Pat Abbot. Jenna is involved with a micro-enterprise ministry called the Green Leaf Craft Shop. There she teaches women skills in handicraft arts such as sewing bags, purses, and clothing which are sold at local markets. She also oversees a discipleship ministry called Women of the Proverbs where she leads women in Bible studies and does relational evangelism with neighbors.
Important health information for Uganda: Zika is currently in Uganda. If you are pregnant or could become pregnant, you may want to speak to your doctor before going on this trip. All participants will need to make sure their routine vaccinations are updated. A Yellow Fever vaccine is required, and Jenna recommends Typhoid, Rabies, Hepatitis A&B, and Malaria vaccines. You may speak to a travel health doctor or find out more at the CDC website to learn more.
