PREPARE & CONNECT

This Week's Sermon: Our study of the first four chapters of Genesis continues this week with a sermon on Genesis 1:26-27 from Shad Baker, pastor of Carlisle (PA) Evangelical Free Church. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for Sunday's service.

Volunteer Schedule Coming Soon! Our February-May volunteer schedule will be sent out by the end of this week. Keep an eye on your email!

Leave it Better: Faith, Vocation, and the Mission of God: Our Sunday afternoon class this winter will explore how our work fits in with God's purposes. This class will meet on January 24th, January 31st, February 7th, and February 14th at 3pm in room 303 at Grace Covenant. Childcare is provided; please RSVP for childcare using this form by noon on the Friday before each session.

Caring for the Vaughans: For continued updates on how Rosalie Vaughan is doing with her treatment--and for ways we can all help care for her and her family--make sure to visit her CaringBridge site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/rosalievaughan. You will need to register with the site to see updates. Thank you for your continued prayer and support for the Vaughans!

City Church Basics: Our next session of City Church Basics will take place on Friday, January 15th (7-9:30pm) and Saturday, January 16th (9:30am to noon) at Grace Covenant. City Church Basics explains who we are as a church and what it means to be a member. It is a necessary step towards formally joining the church, although membership is not required. If you’re interested in taking part in this next session, please RSVP to Val Catrow (val@citychurchrva.com). Contact Erik (erik@citychurchrva.com) with questions.

GATHER

Prayer Tomorrow: At City Church we strive to be a community of prayer dependent on God for His purpose, protection, and provision. Please join us tomorrow, January 14th, at 7am in the church office (enter through the back door of the building). Prayer takes place on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month.

Women's Bible Studies: Our Women's Bible studies will begin the week of January 25th on Monday evenings (7:30-9 at Meg Haden's home) and Wednesday mornings (beginning January 27th, 9:30-11:30 in room 303 at Grace Covenant). Please join us this spring semester as we study the book of Judges! This Old Testament book can often seem far removed and irrelevant to our 21st century lives. But God’s Word is living and active, always teaching us who God is and helping us to know and understand ourselves. In Judges we find a people, not unlike ourselves, who are called to live faithfully in a culture surrounded by things and idols that demand their attention and worship. Please register using this form so we can plan for booklets and childcare. Booklets are $5. Childcare is $5 per child. If cost is an issue, scholarships are available for childcare. All requests for financial assistance are confidential. Please contact Meg Haden (meg@citychurchrva.com) with scholarship questions.

Common Good RVA 2016 Conference: Common Good RVA’s 2016 Conference is scheduled for Saturday, January 23rd from 9am to 1pm at Veritas School (3400 Brook Road). Common Good RVA is a post-partisan vision for Richmond’s flourishing that finds concrete expression in everyday decisions for the common good. This year’s conference will focus on helping us answer the question “What is my place?”–both in the world and as a member of God’s kingdom. David Kim, Executive Director of Redeemer’s Center for Faith and Work in New York City will serve as our keynote speaker. We’ll also hear from Richmonders as they share their experiences with discerning the connect between vocation and location.Tickets are $12 and can be purchased via commongoodrva.com. Don't wait--tickets are going quickly!
