This Month’s Prayer Needs: August 2022
At City Church we strive to be a community of prayer dependent on God for His purpose, protection, and provision. Please join us in praying for the following…
EVERYDAY DOXOLOGISTS: TEACHERS & SCHOOL STAFF
Pray for teachers and school staff as they look to the start of a new school year. As we all continue to navigate the pandemic, pray for the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of all school employees as they teach and guide the students in their care. Pray that God bless these educators with extra measures of creativity, patience, and grace for their students and themselves.
LOCAL MISSIONS: RICHMOND CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP INITIATIVE (RCLI)
RCLI is a community of community leaders dedicated to serving Richmond in Christ’s name. Last month, RCLI celebrated 15 years of training Christian leaders to weave the gospel into all they do for the good of metro Richmond. Please join the staff and board in praising God for bringing RCLI to that milestone! Additionally, please pray for RCLI’s newest Fellowship cohort who began meeting the first week of August—pray that God bless the participants with energy, focus, and deepened relationships with one another as they take on this 9-month program together. For more on RCLI, visit rcliweb.org.
GLOBAL MISSIONS: BOAS & JENNA OPEDUN
Boas and Jenna Opedun are missionaries serving in Fort Portal, Uganda with their three children: Theodora, Nile, and Louise, who was born July 1st! In addition to caring for their kids, Jenna works at Women of the Proverbs and Green Leaf Crafts, and Boas works as a media specialist serving the East Africa Serge teams with his gifts for photography and cinematography. Please pray for the Opeduns as they continue their work in Uganda—that God brings forward the financial support needed to make their missionary work as a family possible; that they are able to share the Gospel freely with those they encounter in their work; and for strength as they manage the very real challenges of missionary life. Finally, please join the Opeduns in praising God for Louise’s safe arrival—please also pray for them as they adjust to life on the mission field as a family of five. For updates on the Opeduns, you can email Jenna at Jopedun@serge.org.
MERCY & JUSTICE: THOSE FACING HOUSING INSECURITY
Please pray for our neighbors facing housing insecurity—may God protect them and provide them with the resources and care they need to find safe, stable homes. Above all, pray that they know the rich, abundant love their God has for them. Pray that we have eyes to see these individuals as they are: image-bearers who are worthy of love and care. Pray that God reveal ways that City Church can connect with people and organizations within Richmond caring for those in need of housing. Pray that as we navigate this work that we remember Jesus’s words in Matthew 25: “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’”
