Why are we changing things now?
On May 15th, the Governor of Virginia lifted the masking mandate for vaccinated individuals, at the recommendation of the CDC. The Governor has also stated that indoor capacity limits will be lifted on May 28th. Throughout the pandemic we have worked to follow the guidance of public health officials, recognizing their expertise. These changes are a continuation of that practice.
Do I still need to register?
You will still need to register for our services on May 23rd and May 30th. We will not require registration for our services beginning June 6th.
Are masks required?
Per the guidelines provided by the CDC and the Commonwealth of Virginia, we are lifting the mask requirement for fully vaccinated individuals.
We ask that individuals who are not vaccinated and over the age of 3 wear masks, in line with CDC and state recommendations.
We encourage anyone who needs or wants to continue wearing a mask to continue to do so. We will continue to make masks available to those who want them.
What about social distancing?
Social distancing requirements are lifted for fully vaccinated individuals, but we do ask that you continue to be mindful of others and their needs and comfort levels at this time.
What should I do when I arrive at worship?
Beginning June 6th you are welcome to come right in and find a seat! If you would prefer to visit with other attendees before the service, we ask that you do so outside. If you have children who will be in nursery or Children’s Worship, please be sure to check them in prior to the service. See the next question for more information on nursery and Children’s Worship.
What is the plan for nursery and Children’s Worship?
Beginning June 6th, nursery will last for the duration of the service. We will have three classes: 6-12 months in the crib room across from the parlor; 1 year olds in room 101; 2-3 year olds in the back of the Fellowship Hall (this class will also make use of the playground). Children’s Worship will also move back inside to the third floor beginning with this service, but our teachers will take them outside when possible.
Per our current mask policy, we ask that all unvaccinated individuals over the age of 3 wear masks while inside. We also ask that all Children’s Ministry volunteers wear masks while serving inside.
We have masks available should you need them.
In order to keep an accurate record of who is in nursery and Children’s Worship, we ask that you make use of our check-in system when you arrive at church. Check-in stations will be located at the corner of the Narthex and the main hall of the church.
(Read our recent update sent to families for additional details.)
Will you be serving communion?
While we will continue to provide pre-packaged communion supplies to those who want them, we will begin administering communion at the front of the church beginning June 6th.
Those who prepare and distribute the elements will cleanse their hands thoroughly prior to doing so.
Please maintain social distance as much as possible while waiting in line.
Will the live-stream still be available?
Yes, we will continue to stream the service via YouTube and make worship guides available on our website. Links to the live-stream and the worship guide will be shared via email and posted on our website and social media.
What will happen if someone who attends worship tests positive for COVID-19?
Any attendee who tests positive for COVID-19 and has attended a worship service should notify the church office by way of info@citychurchrva.com or 804-767-8038. The City Church leadership, advised by clinicians from the Re-Opening Task Force, will then initiate necessary tracking/tracing procedures, while maintaining the highest levels of privacy.
I still have questions. Who should I contact?
Feel free to contact the church staff and/or our Re-Opening Task Force (Adam Bailey, Erik Bonkovsky, David Boyce, Cara Campbell, Liza Clark, Mack Hendrix, Stefan Kling, Jennifer Murphy, and Caitlin Wise). We’d be happy to chat.
