Introducing Our New Director of Children's Ministry!

City Church Family,

After a careful and prayerful search process, we are pleased to introduce City Church’s new Director of Children’s Ministry: Sarah Lyon. After an unanimous recommendation from the Search Team and an interview with the Session and other key members of the City Church leadership, Sarah was offered the job, and she accepted. She will begin work a week from today, on June 14th.

Sarah and her family have been in Richmond and at City Church for two years, after moving down from the greater Philadelphia area. They moved here when her husband, Peter, was hired as the campus pastor with Reformed University Fellowship at VCU. Peter and Sarah have two young children—Wesley (5) and Mina (3)—and they live in Carver.

Sarah will work 30 hours per week at City Church in close collaboration with our Director of Preschool Ministry, Jennifer Murphy, who will continue in her position with slightly expanded hours. We are confident that together they will be an effective team leading our Children’s Ministry, cultivating a safe and fun environment for our youngest members to learn about the love of Jesus.

“Sarah’s experience working for a church and her ideas for volunteer care showed me that she would be a good fit for this position. Not only is Sarah relational and extremely personable, she is aware of her need for Jesus.”

“Sarah has nearly five years of youth ministry experience coupled with a heart for sharing the gospel of Jesus with children. In particular we were impressed by her focus on training and caring for volunteers.”

“Her experience working in ministry, ideas about recruitment and training, and vision about how to build a dynamic children’s ministry, all lead us to highly recommend her for the position.”
