This Month's Prayer Needs: August

At City Church we strive to be a community of prayer dependent on God for His purpose, protection, and provision. Please join us in praying for the following…

EVERYDAY DOXOLOGISTS: TEACHERS & SCHOOL STAFF
Please pray for teachers and school staff as they look towards the start of a new school year that. As some schools reopen for the first time since spring 2020 and others continue their safety protocols from last year, pray for the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of all school employees. Pray that God bless these educators with extra measures of creativity, patience, and grace for their students and themselves.

LOCAL MISSION: RUF AT VCU
RUF (Reformed University Fellowship) at VCU is a Christian campus ministry where students from all walks of life can process the truth claims of the Bible. RUF helps students to understand themselves and the world in light of the person and work of Jesus Christ. Please pray for Peter Lyon, RUF at VCU’s campus ministry, and his family (Sarah, Wesley, and Mina) as they forward to reconnecting with students after such a strange, unpredictable year. Please pray for boldness for the RUF community in sharing the gospel during a time that has revealed how desperately hope is needed. If you’re interested in learning more about RUF at VCU, contact Peter at peter.lyon@ruf.org.

GLOBAL MISSION: JESSE & NAOMI BRUBAKER
Jesse and Naomi Brubaker are new City Church Ministry Partners preparing to move to France in the fall to serve with Greater Europe Mission. Please pray for them as they navigate final preparations to leave the United States, including a six-week cultural training program; the visa application and approval process; and saying goodbye to friends and family. To learn more about how you can pray for and support the Brubakers, contact them at jesse.brubaker@gemission.org or naomi.brubaker@gemission.org.

MERCY & JUSTICE: THOSE FACING ECONOMIC HARDSHIPS
The last 18 months have exacerbated economic challenges for so many in Richmond, a city in which more than 23 percent of residents lived in poverty prior to the pandemic. Please pray for our neighbors in need. Pray for the deacons of City Church as they interact with many of these neighbors seeking support—that they approach this work with kindness and wisdom. Pray that we as a church remember Jesus’s words in Luke 4:18: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.” Pray that we live into our calling as followers of Jesus to partner with him in caring for those in need and sharing with them the good news of his lasting provision and love.
