Faith & Work Roundtable: When Work Doesn't Go Our Way
Tomorrow (April 16th) we will meet virtually to have our next Faith & Work Roundtable: When Work Doesn’t Go Our Way. JB Burtch, City Church’s Director of Mentoring, will share from his years of experience in the workforce and help guide us in our discussion. The meeting ID is 700 025 286. Contact Will Jarrett (waj1228@gmail.com) or Meg Haden (meg@citychurchrva.com) with any questions.
Take a peek at the agenda. We especially encourage you to spend some time reading and meditating on the Scripture that will be discussed.
Ice Breaker: Share some stories about your work during social distancing.
Discussion: If you’ve made time to come to this group, work is an important part of your life. If work is an important part of your life, you know it doesn’t always go your way.
Share some examples about work not going your way.
How do these experiences make us feel?
Who/what do you serve in the workplace?
Scripture: What does Scripture say about work not going our way? Can we share some reflections on these scriptures?
Genesis 2:1-3
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.
Genesis 2:15
The Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.
Colossians 3:22-25
22 Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. 25 For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.
How does this scripture invite us to think differently about work “not going our way?”
What is the difference between “work not going our way” and our not being in the right work?
How do we discern when it is time to leave?
