Update on Sunday's Service
Dear City Church Family,
We have an update for you.
Members of our Leadership Committees met virtually this evening to discuss recent developments surrounding COVID-19 in our city and region. In an effort to honor the guidance offered by our local officials, and to acknowledge our collective responsibility in helping to keep our community safe and healthy, we decided to not hold corporate worship on Sunday, March 15th.
We use the word “corporate” here intentionally. While we will not hold our regular worship service at 4pm on Sunday at 1627 Monument Avenue, worship can and will still happen. It just needs to look a little different right now.
Tomorrow we will send out and post resources that can be used for in-home worship on Sunday. We hope you’ll use them—either on your own, with your family, or with a small group.
Speaking of groups...
The decision to cancel corporate worship is not a call to isolate yourself. We do want our members to gather in smaller groups during this time of uncertainty—to read God’s word together, to pray, and to offer support and encouragement. We need each other! However, we also need to keep the idea of social distancing in mind when we are together. Social distancing means you are making a conscious effort to reduce close contact with other people—and according to the Center for Disease Control, it is key in slowing the spread of COVID-19. Put simply, hugs and handshakes should be replaced with warm hellos or fist bumps for a while.
And, of course, wash your hands thoroughly and often, and stay home if you are sick.
We’ll be in touch tomorrow with those resources we mentioned, as well as updates on upcoming church events and information about service opportunities that will allow us to be the church for Richmond—even if we can’t be in church together right now.
In love and peace,
City Church Staff & Leadership
