Flashback: Art for Advent 2014

In 2014 our theme for Advent was "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel," based on the hymn that was translated from a Latin text in the mid-19th Century by an English pastor and hymn writer named John Neale. The Latin text derives from a more ancient music style called Antiphons, and is thought to have been written by the 12th Century. The text is based on a passage from the Biblical prophet Isaiah that promises Emmanuel or ‘God with us.’ The Gospel of Matthew picks up Isaiah’s prophecy and indicates that the birth of Jesus is the fulfillment of the prophecy of Emmanuel.

Here's a video highlighting some of the work created in response to 2014's theme.

This year our Advent theme is "Micah: Waiting on the Lord," focusing specifically on Micah 7:7...

But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me.

Let the prior submissions featured in the video above inspire you, but don't feel limited by them. The nature and form of your contribution is up to you and can be anything: paintings, sketches, photographs, lettering, music, handmade crafts--whatever you are inspired to create in response to this year's theme.

Submissions for 2016's Art for Advent are due by November 20th and will be featured in an exhibit at church in December. Questions can be directed to Emily Osborne at eechildrensdesign@gmail.com).
