PREPARE & CONNECT
This Week's Sermon: Our study of Genesis continues this week with a sermon from Joshua on Genesis 1:26-31. We invite you to read ahead as a way to prepare for Sunday's service.
Volunteer Schedule: The February-May Volunteer Schedule is available on the website. Please take a moment to review it.
Leave it Better: Faith, Vocation, and the Mission of God: Our Sunday afternoon class this winter will explore how our work fits in with God’s purposes. This class will meet on January 24th, January 31st, February 7th, and February 14th at 3pm in room 303 at Grace Covenant. Childcare is provided; please RSVP for childcare using this form by noon on the Friday before each session.
Caring for the Vaughans: For continued updates on how Rosalie Vaughan is doing with her treatment–and for ways we can all help care for her and her family–make sure to visit her CaringBridge site: www.caringbridge.org/visit/rosalievaughan. You will need to register with the site to see updates. Thank you for your continued prayer and support for the Vaughans!
GATHER
Women’s Bible Studies--Monday Night Location Change: Our Women’s Bible studies will begin the week of January 25th on Monday evenings (7:30-9 at Meg Haden’s home, 2317 Maplewood Avenue in Byrd Park) and Wednesday mornings (beginning January 27th, 9:30-11:30 in room 303 at Grace Covenant). Please join us this spring semester as we study the book of Judges! This Old Testament book can often seem far removed and irrelevant to our 21st century lives. But God’s Word is living and active, always teaching us who God is and helping us to know and understand ourselves. In Judges we find a people, not unlike ourselves, who are called to live faithfully in a culture surrounded by things and idols that demand their attention and worship. Please register using this form so we can plan for booklets and childcare. Booklets are $5. Childcare is $5 per child. If cost is an issue, scholarships are available for childcare. All requests for financial assistance are confidential. Please contact Meg Haden (meg@citychurchrva.com) with scholarship questions.
Race and the Church: Several churches in the Richmond area have come together to create “Race in the Church.” Throughout 2016 they will host a series of speakers/dialogues exploring where we can learn and reflect upon some of the important issues facing the church. Issues surrounding race and ethnicity, developing a fuller grasp of how the past affects the present, #blacklivesmatter, the pursuit of justice, and developing a framework through which we might pursue multi-ethnic and cross-cultural churches are some of the topics we will address. The first session is scheduled for Saturday, January 30th and will address the topic Race and History: How Does It Affect the Here and Now? For more information, please visit raceandthechurch.com.
SERVE
Six Nursery Workers Needed: We are in need of 6 more nursery volunteers to complete our February-May volunteer schedule. If you’re interested in help to care for and teach some of City Church’s youngest (and cutest!) members, please contact Jennifer Murphy (jennifer@citychurchrva.com) to sign up.
Jobs for Life: This spring, City Church will partner with Grace Covenant and STEP to host Jobs for Life, a fifteen-week, Christ-centered, class dedicated to helping those in need find dignity and purpose through meaningful work. We’ll meet on Tuesday nights from 6pm to 8:30 pm, starting February 16th at Grace Covenant. Weekly champions (peer support), prayer leaders, van drivers, childcare providers, small business professionals, and meal prep volunteers are all needed. To get involved, contact Eric Morgan (ericrichardsmorgan@gmail.com) or Blake Stack (blakestack@icloud.com) for more details.
